After a year of involvement in the Community of the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of the Immaculate Conception, Naic, Cavite I felt great joy and gratitude to God and to my Congregation for sending me in this sheepfold. It is the ONLY SHRINE and the BIGGEST CHURCH in Cavite.
I help mostly in the formation of the Altar Servers and the Catechists, to whom I have introduced the LECTIO DIVINA. They greatly appreciate this way of praying which they also share with the other young people belonging to other ministries and organizations like the Choir and the Junior praesedium of the Legion of Mary. I also attend and give input/formation to the youth of the different barangay Chapels.
The young people of the parish meet weekly as I give them formation sessions guided by the goals of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Youth which are:
1) To establish and strengthen the youth’s relationship with Christ;
2) To provide opportunities for personal growth (self-discovery and self-development);
3) To encourage community involvement.
On week-ends I meet the young people both in the Mother Parish and in the Barangay Chapels, and on weekdays I help in catechizing students in the two Public Schools of the town hoping that they will also be encouraged to participate in the Parish Youth Ministry. After each meeting I always leave this message to the young people, “in order to become an evangelizer you have to be evangelized…do not forget our meeting next week!”
Our activities include monthly Taize prayer and parish-wide Summer Youth Camp. I also invite if there are opportunities some Pastorelle Sisters to help me in facilitating our Community Journey and sometimes as Speakers.
My experience is quite challenging but consoling. I need to have a full grasp and knowledge of what I want to propose to the whole Parish Team. It seems to me that the work I am sharing with them is really relevant for them.
Through my encounter with them, they were also led to look after their spiritual life to the point of desiring to have their own Spiritual Director. There is really a feeling of great joy and gratitude in me knowing that I do not do grandiose things/event in the parish but I believe our mission to form, to instruct and to sanctify the people/sheep of the Lord is very much appreciated by the faithful of this place.

What a grace that the Pastorelle has spread its ministry to another town in Cavite. May the joy you radiate in the apostolate with young people be blessed indeed by the Lord...perhaps open the hearts of young people to opt serving Him in religious life. Happy continuation of your ministry Revelyn.
